Collection Update – Embalming Fluid Bottle

We’ve recently added this wonderful Embalming Fluid Bottle to the Coffin Works Archive Collection.

Embalming was the job of the undertaker and it represents a turning point in the funeral industry insofar as it was this practice that moved the industry from the social into the scientific world.

“Sanitary science” as it was called, explored preservation through understanding anatomy. Now, this undertaking broadened its horizons further in an attempt to make preservation of the body easier, while also upholding growing concerns of sanitation.
